The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis’s (CAM) Community Access Manager designs and leads programs and initiatives that strategically connect CAM with community members, including but not limited to: young children and their families, individuals with disabilities, older adults, and the museum’s immediate neighborhood. Programs and engagements take place both onsite at the museum and offsite in the community. The Community Access Manager is an engaging and inclusive educator who develops program design for audience growth across diverse settings in order to make contemporary art available and accessible, especially to people who face systemic barriers. This role reports to the Director of Learning and Engagement.

Responsibilities

CAM Connect

• Lead and manage CAM Connect, a program that provides tours and workshops for priority community service areas. Service areas are currently defined around three historically marginalized and isolated community segments: people with disabilities, residents of North St. Louis, and older adults.
• Create lesson plans each exhibition season that provide accessible artmaking activities inspired by artworks on view. These lessons may complement the framework used with K-12 Students.
• Attend meetings of Grand Center Inc., Covenant Blu Neighborhood Association, and other neighborhood anchors included in CAM Connect’s service area.
• Use program evaluation and available data to refine priority service areas, understand community assets and stakeholders, and build an annual plan that continually grows access provided through CAM Connect.
• Maintain a contact database and relationship management with CAM Connect eligible individuals and organizations.
• Develop and lead training for museum staff about inclusive practices for supporting visitors with disabilities, on an as needed basis.

Fairs and Festivals

• Coordinate CAM participation in Fairs and Festivals, including developing any activity or other offerings, logistics, communications, and volunteer help.
• Identify opportunities for Fairs and Festivals to attend that advance CAM’s audience development goals and deepen connections between the museum and St. Louis communities.

Youth and Family Engagement

• Develop, coordinate, and lead monthly Play Date program for families at the museum, including developing and leading a thematic artmaking activity and coordinating performing artists
• Develop, coordinate, and lead Family Day at the museum, including designing activities, coordinating staff support, coordinating with fellow Grand Center arts organizations, and securing any permits required 
• Identify and/or develop activity cards, coloring sheets, or other resources that provide children with self-directed learning
• Maintain Children’s Play Space as a safe, clean, and inclusive space for people of all ages and abilities

Administration

• Supervise part time Education Assistant, who provides support to onsite and offsite programs. Hire and oversee any additional volunteers to help support programs. 
• Help maintain the Learning and Engagement Studio as an organized, clean, and safe shared environment
• Maintain relevant contact databases of past, present, and potential individuals and organizations that could be served by programs, especially CAM Connect database 
• Maintain rosters, lesson plans, presentations, and any other educational material developed for the program, organized in shared file system
• Record attendance for all programs overseen by the position
• Document program development through photographs and video (ensuring proper approvals from participants is in place)
• Conduct comprehensive program evaluation that satisfies needs of program development and grantor/funder reporting requests; support Development team on funding application and reporting
• Track, monitor, and report on expenses related to programs and develop program budgets with Director of Learning and Engagement
• Support the Marketing and Communications team to continually expand the museum’s visibility among diverse constituencies
• Collaborate with Curatorial team and spend time on-site at CAM to understand current and upcoming exhibitions
• Ensure clear departmental communication and close collaboration through weekly meetings with L&E Director and L&E department to discuss tasks, debrief on programs, and prepare for upcoming projects
• Maintain a thoughtful, reflective practice to CAM’s approach to gallery-based teaching, and share these skills and approaches with fellow Learning and Engagement colleagues, Visitor Service Associates, and other CAM staff
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in fine art, art history, art education, or related field; equivalent experience will also be considered as commensurate with a degree 
• A dedicated commitment to art education and appreciation 
• Direct teaching experience in a classroom and/or informal learning environment
• Knowledge of contemporary art and culture 
• Demonstrated commitment to values of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
• Willingness to learn and gain skills in providing access to the museum for visitors with disabilities; Experience volunteering and/or working with people with disabilities is a plus
• Strong verbal and written communication skills as they pertain to public speaking, teaching, and writing educational materials
• Strong attention to detail, particularly with administrative tasks, including spreadsheets, processes, budgets, and policies
• Highly collaborative and able to work in a team setting to achieve larger goals
• Ability to think strategically and prioritize workload
• Ability to be responsive and flexible, using a learner/curiosity mindset
• Ability to self-initiate and work independently
• Proficiency with or ability to quickly learn the following technology systems: Google Calendars and Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, videoconferencing, and Adobe Creative Suite basics
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as programs require, in particular every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 am–12:00 pm
• Must be able to drive to offsite programs with necessary supplies in personal transportation

Compensation 

This is a full-time position. Compensation, including benefits, is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary range for this position is $55,000–$60,000.
