Facilities Manager

The Facilities Manager at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (CAM) is responsible for ensuring the CAM facilities are maintained with high standards for safety, appearance, and cleanliness. The position is full-time and reports to the Deputy Director.

Responsibilities

Systems Operations

/ Monitor and maintain HVAC, elevator, plumbing, drains, security and fire equipment, kitchen equipment, and inventory of related consumables (filters, salt for water softener, etc.)

/ Maintain daily, weekly, monthly, annual preventative maintenance schedules

/ Ensure compliance with applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures 

/ Schedule system repairs and annual preventative maintenance and inspections 

/ Recommend appropriate upgrades of equipment or facilities

/ Maintain vendor relationship and meet with vendors frequently

/ Performs other related duties as required

Maintenance and Repairs

/ Maintain interior and exterior appearance of building 

/ Perform building repairs, including basic carpentry and painting

/ Repair and replace interior, exterior, and emergency lighting

/ Ensure that tools, equipment, furniture, and supplies are organized and in good working order

/ Maintain appearance of sidewalks, courtyard, receiving dock, and exterior of building 

/ Maintain a safe and clean working environment

/ Performs other related duties as required

Custodial Services

/ Schedule and supervise contracted cleaning services, trash and recycling services, door mat delivery, snow removal services, pest control, and other vendors

/ Ensure that all doors, aisles, stairs, exits, and walkways are clear of obstacles 

/ Order and inventory all paper goods for the organization (both public spaces and administrative offices); includes, but not limited to, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.

/ Work closely with custodial vendors to ensure the facility is tidy and in shape for pre- and post-event needs

/ Ensure that all trash is emptied in a timely manner throughout the week, in coordination with custodial vendor

/ Keep the courtyard clean and clear of debris and leaves; and rake gravel as needed 

/ Keep public spaces clean and clear by spot sweeping and mopping on a daily and weekly schedule

/ Maintain current custodial vendor relationships and meet with vendors frequently

/ Performs other related duties as required

Safety and Security

/ Ensure that all CAM team members are properly trained in securing the facility 

/ Maintain security features for all staff including, but not limited to, key distribution, key fob activation, and secured parking passes

/ In coordination with the Deputy Director, conduct safety training of all staff throughout the year. Trainings include, but not limited to, weather safety and active shooter

/ Work closely with the Deputy Director and CAM’s security company to ensure compliance and safety needs are met

/ Maintain current security vendor relationship

/ Performs other related duties as required

Special Projects

/ Assist with coordination and execution of special projects needed for exhibitions and special events

/ Assist with the execution of exhibition projects ahead of exhibition installation season in coordination with the Registrar and Exhibitions Production Manager

/ Assist Preparators as needed; including, but not limited to, building exhibition furniture

/ Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

/ Appropriate experience and/or bachelor’s degree; applicable vocational training preferred 

/ Good verbal and written communication skills

/ Able to lift a maximum weight of up to 75lbs

/ Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools such as hammer, electric drill, saws, etc. 

/ General carpentry and painting skills required 

/ Able to climb ladders and operate scissor lift

/ Familiarity with, or certification in, forklift operations

/ Proficiency in using computer programs, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace

/ Familiarity with building operating systems (HVAC, monitoring software, etc.)

/ Knowledge of bidding process 

/ Knowledge of a museum or visual arts organization a plus

/ Excellent organization skills; ability to coordinate projects and manage multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously; ability to follow through and meet deadlines

/ Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; excellent time management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills

/ Ability to represent CAM with a high level of integrity and professionalism, adhere to CAM policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner

/ Create and maintain multiple external vendor relationships 

/ Dependability under both supervised and unsupervised conditions 

Compensation

This is a full-time position. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary range for this position is $54,000-60,000 annually. The work schedule does include some evening and weekend work depending on building needs and events hosted at CAM.

 Visitor Experience Associate

The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis seeks a Visitor Experience Associate (VEA) to join our team. Reporting to the Visitor Experience and Events Manager, VEAs are integral to ensuring that visitors have a meaningful and satisfying experience at CAM. This is a part-time position with a variable work schedule that is dependent on programs and events. Regular museum hours are Wednesday–Sunday 10:00 am–5:00 pm and Friday 10:00 am–8:00 pm. VEAs must have flexible schedules to work between 16 and 24 hours per week, with evening and weekend availability required.

 

Responsibilities
 

 Guest Services

  • Greet and check in visitors with a welcoming attitude
  • Provide customer service to visitors at the front desk and in the shop; promote and process memberships
  • Communicate Museum policies with clarity and positivity
  • Staff the galleries during open hours to provide artwork security and visitor service; promote an enjoyable and safe museum environment
  • Answer visitor questions and speak knowledgeably about the Museum and exhibitions, programs, and events
  • Maintain knowledge of exhibitions, programs, and other Museum activities
  • Assist with evaluation and survey projects, including interacting with visitors and families as they enter and exit the museum to assess their Museum experience.
     

 Event Support

  • Set up and break down events
  • Support Learning & Engagement with guided tours to groups and individuals and participate in ongoing tour guide training 
  • Work with other Museum staff as needed to implement policies, manage event set-up, maintain gallery spaces, and assist with other projects as requested
     

 Operational and Administrative Support

  • Ensure the cleanliness of galleries and public spaces
  • Effectively communicate information to VEAs and event staff and ensure the performance of daily housekeeping tasks
  • Accurately track and report on attendance and event data
  • Report issues to Lead VEA on duty and/or Visitor Experience and Events Manager
  • Proactively adapt to change, be it changes within the museum or the changing needs of CAM’s audience 
  • Other duties as assigned
     

 Qualifications
